SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Joint Memorial 88 makes several findings regarding the popularity, superiority, medici-
nal, addictive, aphrodisiacal and spiritual qualities of the chile plant, Capsicum annuum. The
memorial requests the secretary of state to list the chile plant as the state vegetable in the next
publication of the blue book.
Significant Issues
Chile is already listed in the Blue Book along with New Mexico’s other official state vegetable,
the frijoles (pinto beans of the phaseolus vulgaris family).
