Synopsis of Bill
House Memorial 72 resolves the LESC study the definitions of “rural school” and “rural school
district” to clarify which schools and districts are entitled to assistance from the Public Education
Department (PED) Rural Education Division, compare the number of students eligible for fed-
eral funding to those eligible for PED assistance, specifically studying districts with student
populations between 950 and 2,500, population density and sparsely populated tribal lands. The
study is to be presented with recommendations to LESC and the interim Indian Affairs Commit-
tee with the intent of leading to appropriate legislation during the second session of the 47
th
