SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 959 appropriates $50 thousand from the general fund to the New Mexico Corrections
Department for the purpose of assisting prisoners in the custody of correctional facilities to main-
tain contact with their children and families.
PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS
PDD states establishing and keeping positive ties with family and community is critical in reduc-
ing recidivism.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50 thousand contained in this bill is a nonrecurring expense to the general
fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall
revert to the general fund.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
NMCD will be responsible for administration of programs for inmates to maintain contact with
their children and families.
