SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Joint Memorial 72 makes findings related to the promise of biotechnology and on New
Mexico’s unique position as a world leader in the field and requests the secretary of economic
development to appear before the appropriate interim committee to report on the department’s
plan for biotechnology research and development in New Mexico as well as on any suggested
legislation.
Significant Issues
EDD reports that is has developed a statewide plan for biotechnology research and development.
NMED suggests that the secretary should address the environmental impacts as part of the re-
quested testimony.
