SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 665
This bill allows local school board members to participate in the New Mexico
Public Schools Insurance Authority plan, provided they pay 100% of the premium.
Significant Issues
According to The New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority, its rules and regulations al-
ready allow active school board members to participate in the PSIA plan at 100% of premium.
Eligibility begins the day the school board member takes the oath of office and ends when they
are no longer active board members. Post-eligibility health benefits can be continued through
COBRA continuation for up to eighteen months.
Group life benefits are also available to school board members at the voluntary life rates in an
amount equal to the school district’s basic life amount.
