HOUSE JOINT MEMORIAL 28

47th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first session, 2005

INTRODUCED BY

Eric A. Youngberg

A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE TO PROCEED EXPEDITIOUSLY TO STRIPE MONTANO BOULEVARD FOR FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC.

     WHEREAS, the population growth in the city of Albuquerque, and especially on the west side of the city, has outpaced the city's ability to provide sufficient infrastructure for residents and visitors; and

     WHEREAS, the opening of the Montano boulevard bridge in 1997 greatly reduced the traffic congestion that west side commuters fought daily; and

     WHEREAS, portions of Montano boulevard currently accommodate two lanes of traffic but are wide enough to accommodate four lanes of traffic; and

     WHEREAS, reconfiguring portions of Montano boulevard to accommodate four lanes of traffic is a cost-effective and responsible solution to west side traffic problems; and

     WHEREAS, that solution balances the needs of commuters with the needs of other residents concerned about increased traffic flow;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the city of Albuquerque be requested to proceed expeditiously to reconfigure Montano boulevard to accommodate four lanes of traffic; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the mayor and the city councilors of the city of Albuquerque.
