AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO PURCHASE VOTING MACHINES FROM CERTAIN COUNTIES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Four million dollars ($4,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the secretary of state for expenditure in fiscal years 2006 and 2007 to purchase voting machines from counties that purchased new voting machines to meet new voting system standards and must now replace those systems with new machines due to legislation enacted by the second session of the forty-seventh legislature. The secretary of state shall sell the voting systems purchased from the counties and deposit the revenue in the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
