SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 355 appropriates $250 thousand from the general fund to the Department of Veterans’
Services in FY07 to contract with a non-profit organization that provides transitional housing
services to veterans to provide housing, employment training and other support services to home-
less veterans and veterans who are experiencing a housing crisis.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The $250 thousand appropriation would supplement current department efforts to assist home-
less veterans. The department has a $297 thousand federal grant which is supporting 30 beds
through FY07 for homeless veterans at the Veteran’s Integration Center in Albuquerque. The
Department also received $47.5 thousand from Laws 2005, Chapter 34 for homeless programs,
and has a request for a non-recurring supplemental funding of $200 thousand for FY06.
