SUMMARY
Synopsis of HGUAC Amendment
The House Government and Urban Affairs amendment strikes the word “Albuquerque” in the
bill’s title and inserts “New Mexico”. The body of the bill is otherwise unchanged.
Synopsis of Original Bill
House Bill 496 appropriates from the general fund to the Cultural Affairs Department to fund a
science education program through a science center and children’s museum in Albuquerque.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
House Bill 496 appropriates $250.0 from the general fund and is recurring. Any unexpended or
unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The legislation would provide funding for the science center and children’s museum in Albu-
querque to design and implement education programs for New Mexico children from Albuquer-
que and the surrounding region. The development of educational outreach programs promotes a
creative, engaged, and confident student.
