SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
New Mexico is home to more than five-hundred thousand people under the age of 18. New
Mexico’s youth should be encouraged to participate in socially and culturally appropriate and
significant activities that reinforce positive behavior through strengthening bonds held with their
parents, guardians, and mentors. Exposure to the legislative process and Legislators can provide
New Mexico’s youth with a positive means of self-expression, and appropriate role models.
