SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 349 appropriates $50,000 from the general fund to the Public Education Department
to promote awareness and participation in basketball-related activities, including mentoring pro-
grams, sporting events, lectures and internship programs, organized by a non-university based
basketball team.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert
to the general fund.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
This line-item proposal was not included in the Executive budget recommendation or the LFC’s
appropriation recommendations.
PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS
According to the Higher Education Department, if funded, the PED would be responsible for
providing funding to schools and monitoring the program. This process takes approximately 40
hours of an Education Administrator – A time @ $25.495 per hour plus benefits (25.495 x 40 +
30% = $1,300 Total Cost).
The Higher Education Department did not state whether they could absorb this additional with-
out adversely affecting other priorities.
