SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 644 appropriates $25,000 from the general fund to the Board of Regents of the Uni-
versity of New Mexico to support the Center for Latin American Resources and for Outreach
(CLARO) and for intercultural projects in Albuquerque.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $25,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert
to the general fund.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
This request was not on the list of priority projects submitted by UNM to the NM Higher Educa-
tion Department for review and was not included in the Department’s funding recommendation
for FY07.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
According to the Higher Education Department, CLARO is the educational and community out-
reach unit of the Latin American and Iberian Institute at the University of New Mexico. CLARO
strives to provide high quality educational and cultural programs to educators, professionals, and
communities in the State of New Mexico.
