AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR INCREASED AND CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE MENTAL HEALTH CARE FOR NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENTS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of health in coordination with the university of New Mexico health sciences center for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 to provide increased hours of service by mental health care providers in school-based health care centers at schools with at least fifteen percent Native American students and to provide culturally appropriate training for such providers; provided that at least ninety-eight percent of this appropriation must go to direct student mental health care services or mental health care provider training. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
