AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE NEW MEXICO SENTENCING COMMISSION TO STUDY GENDER-SPECIFIC PROBATION AND PAROLE MODELS AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. Fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico sentencing commission for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 to:

                (1) study gender-specific probation and parole models;

                (2) survey existing participants on probation and parole on the effectiveness of current probation and parole programs and on their ability to re-enter society;

                (3) share results of the survey with the courts, corrections and justice committee; and

                (4) make recommendations on implementing best practices in New Mexico.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
