AN ACT

RELATING TO VETERANS; DESIGNATING A SPECIAL WARTIME MEDAL.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Veterans' Services Department Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] WARTIME RIBBON AND MEDAL.--

          A. The department, in cooperation with the department of military affairs, shall award a special wartime ribbon and medal to each veteran who served during a recognized period of armed conflict.

          B. A veteran who was honorably discharged from the armed forces of the United States and who was a resident of New Mexico at the initial time of entry or who is currently a legal resident of the state shall qualify for this medal.

          C. The department shall adopt rules and procedures to implement the provisions of this section."
