FOR THE LEGISLATIVE HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A HEALTH CAREERS PATHWAY TO HELP BRING STUDENTS INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million eight hundred fifty-five thousand dollars ($1,855,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure by the New Mexico health sciences center in fiscal years 2008 and 2009 to provide funding to encourage underrepresented students and retain them in the health sciences field and health professions. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
