AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR BRIDGING THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT GAP, PREPARING FOR COURSEWORK IN THE FIELD OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES AND PROVIDING FELLOWSHIPS, ASSISTANTSHIPS AND A DISTINGUISHED LECTURE SERIES IN AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 to bridge the achievement gap for high school students and first year university students to prepare for university coursework in the field of African American studies and to provide for fellowships and assistantships for graduate and post-doctoral students and a distinguished lecture series in African American studies. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
