FOR THE LEGISLATIVE HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT FOR A COST-OF-LIVING INCREASE FOR STAFF OF INTERMEDIATE CARE FACILITIES FOR THE MENTALLY RETARDED.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred thirty thousand dollars ($230,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the human services department for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 for a cost-of-living increase for staff at intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded to improve staff recruitment and retention and to meet increased costs of employee benefits and rising programmatic and operations costs to maintain quality services to recipients. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
