AN ACT

RELATING TO OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE DISABLEMENT; REQUIRING FIRE DEPARTMENTS TO PROVIDE MEDICAL MONITORING FOR FIREFIGHTERS AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL PERSONNEL.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the New Mexico Occupational Disease Disablement Law is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] MEDICAL MONITORING REQUIRED--FIREFIGHTERS AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL PERSONNEL.--Each municipality and county is required to systematically monitor the health of firefighters and emergency medical personnel of its fire departments, including volunteer fire departments, and track all incidents and exposures to dangerous contagious or infectious diseases; smoke, fumes, poisonous, toxic or chemical substances; and job stresses that lead to cardiovascular disease, cancer, autoimmune diseases or other chronic debilitating diseases or conditions."
