A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NATIONAL DEFENSE MADE BY
THE FOUR MAJOR ACTIVE DEFENSE INSTALLATIONS IN THE STATE OF
NEW MEXICO ALONG WITH THE RESERVE FORCE CAPABILITY OF THE NEW
MEXICO NATIONAL GUARD.
WHEREAS, New Mexico is the home of four major department
of defense military bases, including Cannon air force base in
Clovis, Holloman air force base in Alamogordo, Kirtland air
force base in Albuquerque and White Sands missile range near
Las Cruces, and is also supported by the men and women of the
New Mexico national guard, including the air national guard
and army national guard; and
WHEREAS, the total economic impact within New Mexico of
the four installations exceeds five billion dollars
($5,000,000,000); and
WHEREAS, the installations have missions critical to the
national defense of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the installations' major missions include
tactical air, test and evaluation, research and development,
special operations training, counterterrorism and other
critical areas, along with a host of secondary missions; and
WHEREAS, the most important single element in these
department of defense installations and the New Mexico
national guard is people, whether uniformed men and women,

family members, civilians working for the individual armed
forces, contractors and others associated with each military
installation in the state, along with the New Mexico national
guard men and women; and
WHEREAS, the state of New Mexico is known for its
support of the military; and
WHEREAS, the state of New Mexico recognizes that morale
is a significant part of military readiness and desires to
support the morale of those serving in the four major active
defense installations in this state by this official
recognition of their contributions;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state of
New Mexico recognize and appreciate the important and
continuing contributions of the four major active military
installations in our state, along with the contributions of
the New Mexico national guard; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the state of New Mexico
recognize and appreciate the people who work or live at those
four department of defense military installations, along with
the people of the New Mexico national guard; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
transmitted to the commanders of Cannon air force base,
Holloman air force base, Kirtland air force base and White
Sands missile range, along with copies to the secretary of the

air force, the secretary of the army, the chief of the
national guard bureau and the adjutant general of the state of
New Mexico.
