A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CONDUCT A STUDY
TO DETERMINE IF THE SPEED LIMIT ON UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 70
OUTSIDE THE TOWN OF ELIDA IS APPROPRIATE.
WHEREAS, there have been many complaints by motorists
driving on United States highway 70 outside the town of Elida
due to the number of citations issued for speeding; and
WHEREAS, the number of citations may be due to the low
speed limit on that stretch of the highway; and
WHEREAS, it may be appropriate to raise the speed limit
on this stretch of highway;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department
of transportation be requested to conduct a study to determine
if the speed limit on United States highway 70 outside the
town of Elida is appropriate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
transmitted to the department of transportation.
