A MEMORIAL
DECLARING MARCH 15, 2007 "COWBOY DAY" AT THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES AND RECOGNIZING JULY 28, 2007 AS "NEW MEXICO
DAY OF THE COWBOY".
WHEREAS, cowboys are a fundamental part of New Mexico's
reputation as a leading ranching state; and
WHEREAS, representing a diversity that is uniquely
American, cowboys come from all walks of life, transcending
age, race, gender and generation, and their work ethic and
code of conduct have long infused our great state and nation
with pride and their values have set an example for many; and
WHEREAS, in the state's early years, cowboys worked
throughout the "Land of Enchantment", blazing trails as
explorers and guardians of a growing American frontier, and
their legacy lives on today as men and women literally walk in
the cowboys' footsteps, working and living upon the land; and
WHEREAS, New Mexicans have long been recognized as
leaders in the cowboy and ranching world, with heroes and
champions filling halls of fame across the country, including
the Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Cowgirl Hall of Fame and the Pro
Rodeo Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the "National Day of the Cowboy" has been
celebrated for the past two years and, again, this year,
Americans in communities both far and near will join to

celebrate the cowboys' day;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 15, 2007
be declared "Cowboy Day" at the house of representatives; and
BE IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED that July 28, 2007 be
recognized as "New Mexico Day of the Cowboy" and that all New
Mexicans be encouraged to recognize cowboys, both past and
present, for their numerous contributions to the state and for
keeping the best of New Mexico alive for generations to come.
