AN ACT
RELATING TO HEALTH; CREATING A TASK FORCE TO EXAMINE AND
RECOMMEND IMPROVEMENTS TO ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE PROGRAMS AND
SERVICES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. TEMPORARY PROVISION--ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
TASK FORCE.--
A. The secretary of aging and long-term services
shall convene an Alzheimer's disease task force that shall
meet over a period of two years to examine and recommend
improvements to New Mexico's Alzheimer's disease programs and
services. The aging and long-term services department shall
provide staff support for the task force.
B. The task force shall analyze strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing those who need
care for Alzheimer's disease and compile a comprehensive set
of recommendations for long-term and short-term improvements
in policy and programs. The task force shall report to the
legislative health and human services committee by October
2008.
C. The Alzheimer's disease task force shall have
fourteen members, who are entitled to per diem and mileage as
provided in the Per Diem and Mileage Act. The task force
shall include:

(1) the governor's health policy advisor;
(2) one representative each from the aging
and long-term services department, the department of health,
the human services department and the department of finance
and administration, who shall be selected by the secretaries
of those departments; and
(3) nine nongovernmental representatives,
including three representatives from each of New Mexico's
three United States congressional districts appointed by the
governor, representing caregivers, researchers, members of
Alzheimer's disease organizations and medical professionals.
