SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The Tourism Department states its support for any legislation that promotes tourism and
educates visitors to the state. The department notes that a new ship in the United States Navy
carrying the name “New Mexico" broadcasts the state’s name across the entire U.S. Navy, the
nation and world.
CONFLICT, DUPLICATION, COMPANIONSHIP, RELATIONSHIP
The proposed legislation is a duplication of Senate Bill 63.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
The Tourism Department states it is estimated to take several more years for the construction of
the U.S.S. New Mexico to be completed. The funding in the proposed legislation will help
educate New Mexicans during this process.
