SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 400 appropriates $95,000 from the General Fund to Western New Mexico University
for the Chicano/a Institute.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $95,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the General Fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY 2008 shall revert to the
General Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
WNMU contends that Hispanic students constitute 40% of their student enrollment. Senate Bill
268 would enable the creation of the Chicano/a Institute which would offer education programs
that promote understanding of the intellectual, philosophical, and social development issues
