SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 565 appropriates $50 thousand from the general fund for expenditure in FY07 and
FY08 to Cultural Affairs department for the purpose of planning and implementing the annual
Border Book festival in Mesilla.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50 thousand contained in House Bill 565 is a recurring expense to the
General Fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY08 shall
revert to the General Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The Border Book Festival – celebrating its 13th year in April 2007 – has become a nationally
recognized annual event, attracting writers from all over the world. The Festival has been
