Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 581 appropriates $30 thousand from the general fund to the public education

department for expenditure in FY07 and FY08 for the purpose of providing summer enrichment

programs for youth in Truchas, Ojo Sarco and Cordova.

The bill declares an emergency.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The appropriation of $30 thousand contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general

fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall

revert to the general fund.

The LFC remains concerned with funding initiatives outside of the funding formula as it tends to

disequalize school funding and diverts funding away from core educational needs.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES

Provisions in the bill direct PED to contract through the Espanola Public Schools to provide the

services indicated.
