SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 934 appropriates $20,000 from the general fund to the Public Education Department
for the purpose of increasing funding for school supplies at West Las Vegas and Las Vegas city
schools.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $20,000 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY08 shall revert to the gen-
eral fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The LFC remains concerned with funding initiatives outside the funding formula as it tends to
disequalize school funding and diverts funding away from core educational needs.

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
If the appropriation in HB 934 is approved it will encourage other school districts to seek special
funding of this nature.
ALTERNATIVES
The two school districts in question will fund their school supplies requirements using existing
funding arrangements.
