SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 1174 appropriates $250 thousand from the general fund to the Economic
Development Department to support administration of the New Mexico quality awards program
for business, education, government, health care and non-profit organizations.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $250 thousand contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general
fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall
revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Quality New Mexico is a private, non-profit 501(c) 3 service organization established in 1993
and home to the New Mexico Quality Awards (NMQA) program recognizing
businesses/organizations for commitment to progress and excellence. Since 1994, New Mexico

businesses, schools, health care, government and non-profit organizations have participated in
the NMQA program and received $50 thousand from the state in FY04.

No significant administrative impact.
