SUMMARY
Synopsis of Memorial
House Memorial 67 requests the NMDOT to conduct a study to determine if the speed limit on
U.S. Highway 70 outside the town of Elida is appropriate.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
Fiscal implications to the NMDOT would be restricted to the time required for personnel to
conduct a speed limit survey and the costs to change speed limit signs if the study determines a
new speed limit. These costs would be minimal.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
NMDOT indicates that it normally conducts speed limit studies when conditions change due to
increased congestion or a project is completed to improve the roadway. Speed limit studies are
also conducted when they are requested by the public and NMDOT indicates that one has not
been completed in that area for some time.
