SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 156 adds the charter school student activities program unit into the program cost
calculation.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
Senate Bill 156 does not contain an appropriation.
The cost differential factor of 0.1 times the number of charter school students participating in
school district activities would be minimal for most districts except for Albuquerque, which has
the highest concentration of charter schools within its boundaries.
PED will need to establish a unit value for charter school activities in order to determine the
potential fiscal impact.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
This bill makes technical changes to clean-up language in statute.
At present, the funding formula study taskforce is involved in overseeing a contractor
undertaking a complete review of the funding formula. Recommendations from the taskforce
will be presented to the Legislature in the fall of 2007, in time for consideration by the 2008
legislative session.
The Legislature may wish to delay changes to the program cost calculations until results of the
study is complete.
