SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 312 appropriates $250 thousand from the general fund to the Indian Affairs Department to
fund youth development programs, including the youth leadership project, at the Tohatchi, New Mexico
Chapter of the Navajo Nation
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $250 thousand contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general
fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of Fiscal Year 2008 shall
revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The Indian Affairs Department reports.
According to the Navajo Nation’s census data, Tohatchi, New Mexico has a population of 2,076.
A little over half of this population, or 1,163, are between the ages of 1-19. SB312 would benefit
the sizable population of young people in Tohatchi.
