SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
It is Cultural Affairs department’s understanding that Senate Bill 375 will support a program or
planned initiative at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe.
Enactment of Senate Bill 375 this bill would provide training in the film and television industry,
including production and writing to Native Americans. For three years, the Institute of American
Indian Arts (IAIA) has collaborated with Disney-ABC Television Group Talent Development
Programs to present a summer television and film workshop program. Program instructors from
the film and television industry produce an 8-week curriculum on a variety of areas including
directing, production, acting, animation and screenwriting. In past years, the workshop has been
held at the IAIA campus in Santa Fe.
WHAT WILL BE THE CONSEQUENCES OF NOT ENACTING THIS BILL
There would not be an appropriation from the general fund to support this program.
