SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Making an Appropriation to Support Sheriffs’ Enforcement of Arrest and Bench Warrants
Senate Bill 460 makes an appropriation of $100.0 to the Local Government Division of the
Department of Finance and Administration to support county sheriffs’ enforcement of arrest and
bench warrants.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $100.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the General Fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY08 shall revert to the
General Fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
According to DFA, Senate Bill 460 is aimed at providing funding to help pay for the overtime
for the Bernalillo County Sheriffs’ Department to enforce 65,000 outstanding bench warrants
throughout the county

TECHNICAL ISSUES
DFA reports that Senate Bill 460 is aimed at providing assistance to Bernalillo County but the
bill is not specific on that point and, therefore, funding might be used for the same purpose in
other counties.
POSSIBLE QUESTIONS
If the bill is aimed at providing funding to Bernalillo County only, it may be advisable to specify
that in the legislation.
