SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Joint Memorial 12 declares February 12, 2007 as ‘NEW MEXICO APPRENTICESHIP
DAY" and requests that all New Mexicans be encouraged to support apprenticeship programs
that are economically and socially beneficial to the state.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
SJM 12 cites the opportunities for training and career mobility offered by apprenticeship
programs, recognizes that forty-four organization, including business associations and unions,
sponsor programs in the state, and acknowledges that apprenticeship programs are almost
exclusively the industries they serve. Moreover, HJM 12 points out that over two thousand
individuals participate in these programs.
HJM 12 resolves that February 12 be declared a day at the Legislature so organizations
sponsoring apprenticeship programs can be recognized for their service to the citizens of New
Mexico.
