SUMMARY
Synopsis of HJM
Senate Joint Memorial 33 requests that the University of New Mexico be requested to refrain
from divesting itself of the twenty-six and fifty-seven hundredths acre portion of the El Ranchito
grant form any commercial uses and that the governor designate this portion of the El Ranchito
Grant as part of the Coronado State Monument and that the Museum of New Mexico (MONM)
be granted an interest in the ninety-seven and eight-tenths acres in order to protect the grant's
archaeological resources.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
HJM 64 addresses two major issues:
1)
the request that the MONM be granted the University of New Mexico (UNM) an
undivided half interest in the property (26 and ½ acres) in order to protect and preserve
its archaeological resources, and
2)
request that the university of New Mexico refrain from divesting itself of the El Ranchito
Grant property for any commercial uses and that the governor is requested to designate
this portion of the El Ranchito Grant as part of Coronado State Monument.
