SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Joint Resolution 19 provides that after January 1, 2010, regular elections of school
districts with a population greater than 300,000 shall be held in conjunction with a general
election.
SJR 19 also provides for the Legislature to enact such laws prior to the general election of 2010
as are necessary to effectuate the provision of the joint amendment.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The joint resolution does not contain an appropriation, however by holding regular school district
elections concurrently with the general election, school districts and counties may realize an
overall cost savings.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
It appears that the only school district this will affect is the Albuquerque Public Schools.
