Senate Memorial 19 proclaims February 7, 2007 as “Donald H. Tishman Day".
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Senate Memorial 19 states that Donald H. Tishman has been involved in real estate development
as an attorney, developer and educator for more than forty years, developing real estate in thirty-
five metropolitan centers in the United States. He has been a lifetime democrat, demonstrating a
lifelong devotion to the needs of all people for housing, education and justice. He served as chair
of the young democrats in 1959, running a successful presidential campaign in Ohio for John F.
Kennedy and he is a submariner naval veteran of World War II.
He currently serves as a professor at the University Of New Mexico School Of Architecture and
the Director of the Real Estate Development Center at the University of New Mexico. He has
been a member of numerous boards and commissions, including the foundation board at the
College of Santa Fe and his fundraising efforts led to construction of the visual arts center on the
College of Santa Fe campus. His love and knowledge of architecture have brought world-famous
architects to New Mexico, including Ricardo Legoretto, who helped design the visual arts center
at the College of Santa Fe and the award-winning Zocalo housing project in Santa Fe. He has
developed more than forty thousand multifamily dwellings, always believing that no matter how
poor one is or from what walk of life, all families should be provided with a respectable living

environment. New Mexico has been enriched by his presence, efforts and outstanding citizenship
and on February 7, 2007, he celebrates his eightieth birthday.
The Senate of the State of New Mexico requests that for his lifetime of good works and service
to his fellow citizens, February 7, 2007 be proclaimed “Donald H. Tishman Day". SM 19 also
requests that the Senate of the State of New Mexico wish Donald H. Tishman a happy birthday.
