SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Memorial 20 requests the designation of February 9, 2007 as “Dental Hygienists Day" in
New Mexico.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Senate Memorial 20 states that:
Dental hygienists are licensed oral health care professionals dedicated to promoting oral
health care for the citizens of New Mexico;
Dental hygienists voluntarily give their time and effort to provide educational and
preventive oral health care services to special needs groups, including the elderly, the
disabled, the underprivileged and children;
These services are essential in the dental office, public health facilities, nursing homes
and schools to provide the best possible oral health care for all citizens; and
Dental hygienists in New Mexico are recognized nationwide for their professional
autonomy, self-regulation, collaborative practice model and initiatives in providing
access to oral health care services.
This memorial requests that a copy be transmitted to the New Mexico Board of Dental
Health Care.
