SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Memorial 44 notes the successes of the Jobs for America’s Graduates-New Mexico
program, commends the programs for its success as a dropout prevention and dropout re-
engagement program, notes the relationships between the New Mexico Business Roundtable
and Public Education Department (PED) and requests the program be expanded.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The program is administered by the Public Education Department (PED) with funding from a
Carl D. Perkins federal grant. Expansion of the program would require increased state or federal
funding. An alternative would be to expand the program through outreach to business groups.
Outreach efforts could be accomplished with existing staff.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The Public Education Department has operated as the administrator of the Jobs for America’s Graduates
program since its introduction to New Mexico. The National Jobs for America’s Graduates office contracts
to provide technical assistance to the Jobs for America’s Graduates sites in New Mexico.
