A MEMORIAL
HONORING, CONGRATULATING AND THANKING EDUARDO HOLGUIN FOR HIS
GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN NEW MEXICO.
WHEREAS, Eduardo Holguin served the children of the Las
Cruces public schools as a fifth grade teacher for almost three
decades; and
WHEREAS, Eduardo Holguin served as vice president of the
national education association of New Mexico and is completing
his second and last three-year term as president of the
national education association of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Eduardo Holguin is a native New Mexican and
graduate of Las Cruces high school and New Mexico state
university, with a master's degree in counseling and guidance;
and
WHEREAS, Eduardo Holguin has served the public school

employees of New Mexico as a representative on the national
education association board of directors, a member of the
educational testing service teacher program council, a member
of the unit accreditation board for the national council for
accreditation of teacher education, and as a New Mexico
commissioner on the education commission of the states; and
WHEREAS, Eduardo Holguin has been a tireless advocate for
children, public education and public education employees
before the New Mexico legislature and in other venues; and
WHEREAS, Eduardo Holguin has been responsible for bringing
many notable New Mexicans, including heralded newsman Ernie
Mills, first lady Barbara Richardson, entertainer
extraordinaire Al Hurricane, secretary of state Rebecca Vigil-
Giron, weather prognosticator Steve Stucker, lieutenant
governor Diane Denish and noted New Mexico author Rudolfo
Anaya, onto the floor of the senate alongside the national
education association of New Mexico read across America
honorary chairperson; and
WHEREAS, Eduardo Holguin championed literacy and learning
across New Mexico and the nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
OF NEW MEXICO that the senate congratulate Eduardo Holguin for
his years of service to New Mexico, its public schools, its
children and its public school employees; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the senate offer its gratitude
