A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE SUNLAND PARK RACETRACK AND CASINO, THE VERDE
GROUP, THE CITY OF SUNLAND PARK, THE OWNERS OF CAMINO REAL
LANDFILL AND THE GADSDEN SCHOOL DISTRICT TO WORK COOPERATIVELY
TO STUDY THE IMPACT OF THE CAMINO REAL LANDFILL.
WHEREAS, by executive order, the governor has called for
environmental justice; and
WHEREAS, a four-hundred-eighty-acre landfill, the Camino
Real landfill, is located in close proximity to the city of
Sunland Park, one thousand feet from an elementary school and
near residential neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Sunland Park is starting to make economic gains;
and
WHEREAS, only one percent of the solid waste in the
landfill comes from Sunland Park;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
OF NEW MEXICO that the Sunland Park racetrack and casino, the
Verde group, the city of Sunland Park, the owners of Camino
Real landfill and the Gadsden school district cooperatively
formulate a relocation plan for the Camino Real landfill; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
transmitted to the Sunland Park racetrack and casino, the Verde
group, the city of Sunland Park, the owners of Camino Real
landfill and the Gadsden school district.
