A MEMORIAL
DECLARING FEBRUARY 9, 2008 AS "YWCA DAY" AT THE NEW MEXICO
LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, the YWCA serves over twenty-five million women
and their families throughout the nation; and
WHEREAS, the YWCA is one of the largest providers of
child care, with over two hundred fifty thousand children
cared for; and
WHEREAS, the YWCA helped over one million women last
year in the areas of health care, domestic violence and
economic empowerment; and
WHEREAS, the YWCA-Middle Rio Grande was founded on
February 9, 1906 in New Mexico and has been providing services
to strengthen women and families for ninety-eight years in the
community and throughout the state of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, the YWCA-Middle Rio Grande helped over one
hundred thousand women and their families last year in the
areas of women's health care, professional clothing for women,
early childhood education, nutritious meals for children in
home daycare, technology education for young women and other
youth development; and
WHEREAS, the YWCA-Middle Rio Grande will continue in its
mission to empower women and help create options that will
enable them to live with dignity, strength and economic

independence;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE
STATE OF NEW MEXICO that in recognition of the importance of
the work that the YWCA-Middle Rio Grande does in the state of
New Mexico, that February 9, 2008 be proclaimed "YWCA Day";
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that New Mexicans be encouraged
to show their support for the YWCA-Middle Rio Grande on this
day; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
transmitted to the governor and to the board of directors of
the YWCA-Middle Rio Grande.
