SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 386 amends the Regional Spaceport District Act to rename the southwest regional
spaceport “Spaceport America" for trademarking and branding purposes. The bill transfers all
resources and obligations of the southwest regional spaceport to Spaceport America.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
None identified.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
According to the Spaceport Authority, Spaceport America is already a recognized brand globally
and carries significant value. The official name change will position the trademark of Spaceport
American to be registered. The Spaceport Authority and the State of New Mexico will benefit
by marketing promotional items with the Spaceport America logo. Promotional logo items will
provide a revenue stream for the agency when the spaceport becomes operational.
