SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 473 appropriates $1 million from the general fund to the Tourism Department to fund
the planning and implementation of the 400
th
anniversary celebration for the city of Santa Fe in
2010.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $1 million contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund.
Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2010 shall revert
to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
According to the Tourism Department, the 400th anniversary celebration will begin in July 2008
and run through December 2010. That’s almost two and one-half years of discovery, celebration
and promotion of what is best about Santa Fe. It’s going take organizations willing to provide

hard to capture the city's spirit, imagination, and pride in advance of the anniversary. As the old-
est European settlement west of the Mississippi there is extensive ground to cover prior to this
milestone. Plans have already taken shape and much more is in process to mark the founding of
one of America's most historic and vibrant cities.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The Tourism Department will likely contract with a planning organization or the city to carry out
the promotion of the anniversary celebration.
