House Memorial 64 declares that the New Mexico House of Representatives recognize the
Department of Transportation's contributions to the state's safety and welfare; and that a copy of
this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of transportation.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
House Memorial 64 states that;
During the severe weather that New Mexicans have endured this winter and every winter,
crews from the department of transportation are out before dawn making the roads safe
for travelers; and
Due to the valiant and intrepid work of department of transportation crews in the harshest
of winter conditions, the highways of New Mexico are cleared, salted and sanded, and
commuters and travelers are able to move freely throughout most of the state by early
morning; and
The department of transportation carefully monitors the roads of the state and provides
traveler advisories and up-to-date information to the media and on its web site; and
The department of transportation's work allows the business of the state to continue
during severe winter weather, thereby saving millions of dollars in revenue that might
otherwise be lost due to road closures; and
The department of transportation's work allows the vital business of our state's
democracy to continue as legislators and citizens travel from many areas of the state to
attend the legislative session during winter months;
