Synopsis of Senate Public Affairs Committee Amendment
The SPAC amendment changes the recipient agency from the Economic Development
Department to the Tourism Department and declares an emergency to make the appropriation
available for FY08 and FY09.
Synopsis of Original Bill
Senate Bill 237 appropriates $150 thousand from the general fund to Economic Development
Department to support the Tour of the Gila bicycle race in Grant County, New Mexico.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $150 thousand contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general
fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall
revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The Ben D. Altamirano Tour of the Gila, a five-day professional bicycle race in Silver City, New
Mexico, will be held April 30 to May 4, 2008. It is one of the largest professional races in the
country. Laws 2007, Chapter 28 (House Bill 2) appropriated $50 thousand to the Tourism
Department to support the Tour of the Gila.
