SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 340 appropriates $75,000 to the Administrative Office of the Courts to hire a full-
time temporary clerk to assist with and redo probate records in San Miguel County.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
$75,000 will be distributed from the general fund directly to the Administrative Office of the
Courts for expenditure in fiscal years 2009 and 2010. Any unexpended or unencumbered
balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2010 shall revert to the general fund.

The initial cost of the program of $75,000.00
in fiscal year 2009 is subject to increased costs
resulting from any increases in salaries and the costs of benefits for the FTE.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
This temporary position will be for a full-time clerk that will do data entry from their paper
filings into a currently existing automated system, assist with probate clients, assist with court
filings, and other tasks as necessary.
PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS
The courts are participating in performance-based budgeting. It is unknown if enactment of this
bill would impact performance measures as they relate to judicial budgeting and/or performance.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
This appropriation will help reduce the San Miguel County’s probate caseload and case filing
time.
