SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
SB 499 proposed the creation of a task force that would study the feasibility of implementing
DWI drunk prevention technology in New Mexico that would use driver’s licenses to
electronically register the amount and type of alcoholic liquor purchase by the holder of a
driver’s license from a business that sells or serves alcohol to the public.
This task force is to be composed of the following members:
•
Director of the Alcohol and Gaming Division of the Regulation and Licensing Department or
designee;
•
Director of the Motor Vehicle Division of the Taxation and Revenue Department or
designee;
•
Chief of the Traffic Safety Bureau of the Department of Transportation;
•
Secretary of Public Safety or designee;
•
A representative from the New Mexico Sheriffs’ and Police Association; and
•
Seven members appointed by the Governor.
