Synopsis of Bill
Senate Memorial 59 requests the New Mexico Congressional Delegation to support the
establishment of the Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area.
Copies of this Memorial shall be transmitted to the New Mexico congressional delegation
.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The federal government has made available two hundred twenty-five thousand dollars
($225,000) to develop the Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area.
Economic development and education will underpin the planning process.
Local and state organizations and agencies will be involved in the planning process and
decisions affecting the Heritage Area.
The Northern Rio Grande National Heritage area will include programs and activities
related to preservation and conservation of the landscape, history and tri-cultural
communities.
The mission of the Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area will be to pass on to
future generations the resources they will need to become stewards of the landscape,
history and cultures of Taos, Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties.
